The Challenge

Utilize data from the data.pa.gov open data portal to generate ideas that will help Pennsylvania turn data into insights for the opioid Epidemic. Participants will use a variety of datasets at least one from the PA Open Data Portal and any other open dataset related to opioids may be integrated to develop a solution that will help Pennsylvania address the Opioid Epidemic.

 

More datasets are in process of being published for the event, check out the list of actively engaged datasets in process HERE.

 

It is not required to utilize a use case for the hackathon event, these are to assist with team challenges.

The Prize

Grand Prize of recognition with the Governor’s Office, photo and press release, video on website and lunch with key Commonwealth staff.

Judging Criteria

Winners will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Impact and utility of idea / demo / app – 20%
  • Quality and innovative nature of the idea / demo / app – 20%
  • Compelling use of the data.pa.gov datasets – 20%
  • Excellent use of technology for idea / demo / app – 20%
  • Pitch of idea / demo / app – 20%

Team Participation

Teams can consist of 2 to a maximum of 6 members. Don’t have a team, register as an individual and you’ll be placed on a team.

 

Teams in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia will participate by Cisco WebEx Friday evening and will then attend in person at either the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia or Harrisburg location on Saturday September 22nd, 2018, and also on pitch day October 20th, 2018. We would love for the local Harrisburg Teams to join us onsite in Harrisburg at the Harrisburg University to help us kickoff the event on Friday, September 21.
